DEPARTMENT
OF PUBLIC
IMAGINATION
My Role
As the web designer for the Department of Public Imagination, I conceived, designed, and developed a website that showcases public art projects, future activations, and an archive.
Description
Department of Public Imagination - a public art project - imagines and prototypes new infrastructure for imagination work in Boston. DPI’s activations invite folks to add to a living archive through an installation of the Dream Portal Phone Booth and live soundscape events which encourage collaborative envisioning, rest, and reflection.
Website Design
Collaboration with the department's team was key in refining the content and ensuring the design aligned with their vision. Once the design was finalized, I coded and built the site, incorporating interactive elements and an easily navigable archive. The entire process was iterative, with continuous testing and feedback loops to optimize both the visual appeal and functionality of the website.
PROJECT BELOW
Research
To create the website for the Department of Public Imagination, I began by thoroughly understanding the department's mission and the goals of the site. I conducted research on public art platforms and gathered inspiration from various sources. I referred to DPI's brand identity guidelines and extracted the color palette and typography.
Final Deliverables
The final deliverable was a responsive website optimized for desktop, tablet, and phone specifications. The website was designed within a two-week timeframe, with regular client meetings to ensure consistency across all platforms. Below are images of the homepage and other sections of the site.
Process
I then developed wireframes and design mockups, focusing on creating an intuitive layout that would engage users while highlighting the department's projects and future activations.
