Membrane
Project Overview
Membrane is a skin-like surface that responds to touch, emulating the sensation of peering into the ribcage of an organism. An interactive video of procedurally generated textures of guts, bones, and flesh is rear-projected onto a 60” × 36” natural rubber latex membrane.
Membrane becomes that lean tissue of intimacy that exists between a machine and a human and asks the question: when does a machine become too human? It attempts to evoke the unease felt when a machine behaves almost—but not quite—like an organism.
